One exception that I take to this is that "being inefficient" is often times more efficient in urban settings. For example, during rush hour, taking the stairs as opposed to standing on the escalator can actually be faster. Or, riding your bike can often times get me places faster than driving, looking for parking, etc. Even walking is sometimes faster than driving.
